UKIP favourites in 3 seats after by-election win

The United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) are now favourites to win three seats in next May's general election after their first elected MP was returned on Friday morning, according to Ladbrokes.

The bookies make Douglas Carswell a red hot 1/10 favourite to retain Clacton in 2015, with 5/1 offered about the Tories retaking the constituency. Elsewhere, Nigel Farage is odds on to win South Thanet and the party is also now favourite to take Boston & Skegness.

With a hung parliament looking increasingly likely, the odds on a Tory/UKIP coalition after the election have fallen from 33/1 to 16/1.

Matthew Shaddick of Ladbrokes said: "The UKIP bandwagon shows no sign of stopping. It's now just 5/1 that they win 20 or more seats, and the prospect of Nigel Farage holding the balance of power in Westminster has just got a little closer".
