Labour MP demands the Government suspend all contracts with G4S and Serco

Labour MP and member of the Treasury Select Committee, John Mann has demanded an immediate suspension of all Government contracts held by G4S and Secro in parallel with a ban on them tendering for future contracts. This follows today's announcement by the Justice Secretary, Chris Grayling, that he has asked the Serious Fraud Office to investigate G4S for the overcharging of the tagging of criminals alongside a review of Government contracts with G4S and Serco.

Mr Mann commented: "We are in a very serious place when the companies that are contracted to manage our criminals require a Serious Fraud Office investigation. We need faith and trust in these organisations and until this happens all contracts with Serco and G4S should immediately be suspended and a ban placed on them tendering for new ones. The Government is currently considering proposals for the privatisation of our probation service and it's companies like these that will be angling for the work."

Also commenting on the revelations about G4S and Serco, the Public and Commercial Services union general secretary Mark Serwotka said: "It beggars belief how many times these private companies are allowed to fail and rip off taxpayers and still be awarded government contracts. It ought to be a national scandal but, instead, this Tory-led government actually wants to sell off even more of our public services to these vultures."
