Ten political parties registered in Great Britain reported accepting £14,230,841 in donations between 1 January and 31 March 2014, according to new figures published by the Electoral Commission, the independent party funding watchdog. Political parties reported just over £5m more in donations during the first quarter of this year compared with the first quarter of 2013.
The five political parties to report the most in donations were:
• Conservative Party – £6,662,232
• Labour Party – £4,409,167
• Liberal Democrats – £1,074,482
• Scottish National Party (SNP) – £1,049,789
• UK Independence Party (UKIP) - £493,412
In addition to these donations, during the first quarter of 2014, six parties accepted £1,941,241 from public funds. The value of loans to political parties as at 31 March 2014 stood at £15,096,219.
