UKIP vote to protect Le Pen from prosecution for incitement to racial hatred

Labour Euro MPs have voted to remove the immunity of the French far-right leader and MEP Marine Le Pen in order to allow the French judicial system to prosecute her for incitement to racial hatred after she compared Muslims praying in the streets to the Nazi occupation of France. However, in what Labour are saying is a "shocking turn of events" in the European Parliament the UK Independence Party voted to back Le Pen's immunity from prosecution.

Legal Affairs Spokesperson Arlene McCarthy said: "I am thankful that the vast majority of MEPs saw fit to allow the removal of Marine Le Pen's immunity so that she can be prosecuted for her inflammatory and racist remarks.
Euro MPs are not above the law and UKIP should explain why the Party that claims to speak on behalf of people believes that Marine Le Pen should be treated differently just because she is an MEP. It is the kind of double standards we have come to expect from Farage and his party."

David Martin MEP Constitutional Affairs Spokesperson said: "UKIP's hypocrisy knows no limits they oppose all Euro legislation except when it helps their political bedfellows."
